Many of you know that I, David Lynn, got arrested on June 4th, 2019 for sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. They called it “disturbing the peace”, and “mischief”, but it wasn’t. Most Christians were in uproar at the arrest because even after watching the live footage which is still on YouTube, I did nothing wrong or illegal to have been arrested. I was simply exercising my freedoms as a Canadian Citizen to share my faith and opinions.
This freedom is what the charter of freedom and rights (Canada), the universal declaration of human rights (Globally), the first amendment (in USA) affords all people, regardless of their faith, opinion, or what public sidewalk they share their beliefs on.
Immediately following my arrest, 300 pastors and many more rallied behind me in a private prayer rally for my acquittal. Many more offered support. That private prayer rally was a day where Christians from all walks of life came together for a common cause, to see the civil rights of Christians upheld in Toronto.
Following the private prayer rally, I and many other Christians hosted a peaceful public rally which declared that “Civil rights are for Christians too”, and that no person should be discriminated against for walking down a public street or for sharing their faith on a public sidewalk. So I and others planned and held a peaceful Christian civil rights rally and walk on September 28, 2019 on the street David was arrested: Church street.
Not all Christians agreed with me doing a rally for the civil rights of Christians. Some chose not to come and some even went as far as telling others not to support the rally.
Regardless, myself and about 700 loving Christians rallied in peace on September 28th, 2019. Unfortunately, we were met by an anti-Christian counter protest supported by Toronto’s city councillor Krystin Wong-Tam and John Tory who partnered with the 519 community who in turn partnered with ANTIFA.
Myself and the Christians who stood with me were illegally blockaded for 7 hours from walking up a city street and threatened by ANTIFA for 7 hours (and cops arrested none of them), even though they had a permit for the peaceful Christian rally and march.
Although only loving words and offers of peace were shared From myself and The Christians that stood with me at that rally, members of the counter rally supported by the masked ANTIFA crusaders chanted hateful and intolerant words towards the Christians.
Ironically, the media chose to ignore the hate from the counter protesters and instead paint myself and those who stood with me negatively for hosting a Christian civil rights rally on Church street.
Due to the media reports, many (not all) Christians turned their backs on me. To make matters worse, within 10 days of the rally, the City of Toronto illegally kicked out me and my church from our rental space simply because they had a rally.
After thousands of dollars of lawyer fees and court dates, a 5 day trial was made for July 27th, 2020. As I waited for justice, the nation and world got hit by the Covid-19 virus and all churches were forced closed. This pushed back the court dates.
Most Churches voluntarily closed, but I decided to keep his church open but meet within legal limits. I took my church to the streets. I was criticized for this by some for this, but I kept doing what I believed to be right.
I created the first Canadian petition to deem Churches essential. But after having the petition up for 2 months, it only received 2500 of my 30000 signature goal.
Feeling like all odds were against me, I decided to ignore the lack of support and be obedient to the cause of Christ and the gospel by showing the essential nature of the church by physically meeting within legal limits and reaching out to communities.
Then something amazing happened. On May 13, 2020 at 10am, I received an email from my lawyer Carol Crosson, a Christian civil liberties lawyer, who articulated an amazing defence proving my innocence.
After refusing to drop the charges for almost a year; today, the crown attorney contacted my lawyer to let her know that they would be,
“withdrawing all the charges against him because they believe there is no reasonable ground of criminal conviction against David Lynn”.
Yes, you heard that right!
David Lynn’s charged have been dropped!
Because of this, I would Like to thank each of you for your prayers, your financial support, for standing with me through the many court dates and the Christian civil rights rally.
It was very stressful and emotional but it was also a huge learning curve and exercise of faith.
We did it! Praise the Lord! God always comes through for his people! Each one of us!
I have learned to never shy away from preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ! Never shy away from practicing and sharing the beliefs and opinions of my faith! Never shy away from exercising my civil liberties! Never shy away from standing up and rallying for the respect and Dignity of my faith! And never let the naysayers and media stop me from doing any of the above, especially in a country that affords us these rights!
Yes, standing up may send you to jail! It may cause people to criticize you, paint you in a negative light, or even look at you funny!
It may cause bigots to fire you from your job, force you out of public facilities, or even violate your civil rights.
But when you look at the end of the story or the completed picture, God never let his people down.
Now, let’s together keep preaching the word and standing up for Jesus without fear!
Jesus is coming soon! Jesus is coming soon! Jesus is coming soon!
“16 Thus saith the Lord, which maketh a way in the sea, and a path in the mighty waters; 17 Which bringeth forth the chariot and horse, the army and the power; they shall lie down together, they shall not rise: they are extinct, they are quenched as tow. 18 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert” (Isaiah 43:16-19).
Psalms 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.
Keep praying for me!
